Post Mortem Part I

Introductions
Hello everyone! It has been awhile since Ludum Dare 44 came to close and I have been heavily at work on a new project. I thought it would be nice to revisit what went right and what went wrong during the development of Knight Test. I've actually been working on this post mortem for awhile now and it is about time I get it out. I've decided to split it into two part with this first part being about the good and the bad. The second part will be more of an in-depth look of my three days working on this game. I hope you enjoy this post mortem and I hope you enjoyed Knight's Test even more!

The Good

I usually play it safe with game jams and use engines/frameworks I am familiar with, but I enjoyed using GB Studios for the first time during this event. It is an excellent tool that is easy to use and perfect for game jams. The documentation is great and easy to understand and even then Chris, the developer of GB Studios, was nice enough to help out whenever I reached out to him. I really enjoyed using GB Studios and I hope to see it grow into something much bigger.

The Bad
Due to a very horrendous mistake I made, I messed my laptop up to the point where I couldn't even get into the OS. This was the last day of Ludum Dare so I thought I had lost an entire weekend worth of work. After looking into the situation I was able to get the project from my hard drive and use another computer, but by time I had fixed everything it was time for bed that night. I made a decision to stay up and finish Knight's Test as I didn't want any of the work I did to go to waste. A lot of content had to go in order for me to get it finished in time, for example, you were meant to move in the military scene and do a push block puzzle. In the end that was scrapped for the interactive cut scene.

I am happy that I finished Knight's Test in the end, but it was shell of what I had planned for it. I am lucky enough now to have multiple computers to work on if one breaks and I learned a lesson to always back-up, however the most important lesson to take away from this is never give up.
